Internet Resources

The movies can make us believe almost anything, but it's still hard to believe that Todd Haynes managed to make "I'm Not There."

This is useful because it shows that I'm not there was believeable and for Todd Haynes this is unusual because his previous films seem almost critical of the character being portrayed and aren't as believeable such as Superstar: the Karen Carpenter story, which is portrayed with the use of barbie dolls which have been whittled away with knives, wheras in Im not there Dylan is more accurately portrayed.

This is useful because it shows what the audience and critics thinkof the film and they both like it, it aslo says that the acting is superior which shows that the way Johnny Cash was portrayed was very believeable and true.

This website was useful because it showes the ratings for the film which were mostly four stars and the fact that it was quoted "the best music movie of the decade" also shows that it was successful and realistic.

This resource is useful because it discusses how Todd Haynes portrayes the many different aspects of Bob Dylans life through the use of actors, genres and stories and how the heart of the film is how Bob Dylan rose above his own time by being different all the time and showing different sides to his peronality, and this made the film so much more accurate.

Reese Witherspoon on the Difficult Task of Singing Like June Carter Cast in “Walk the Line:” “Well, [it was] nearly impossible so I just tried to be the best version of what I could be, because it was impossible to emulate her. And I’m sure on Joaquin’s part it was pretty difficult to emulate Johnny Cash. But we trained for five and a half months and learned to play instruments, record an album, and worked six or seven hours every day for five months on it. So you can’t say we didn’t try.“

This is a useful resource because she discusses the effort that went into making the part as much like June Carter Cash as much as she possibly could and it shows how much effort went into making the film as truthful as possible and realistic.

"Not many people know this story so it did start me off in wanting to find out more about him. I read a lot of biographies and focused on his earlier stages. It was important to find a young boy who's going to become a young man and find his vulnerable side. A side that most people don't really relate to Lennon, they see this boisterous aggressive guy on the outside."

This is useful because Aaron Johnson talks about how much effort he went into to portray Lennon in the best way that he could and represent him as closely to how he is as possible.

“I think it’s one of those films that you have to kind of accept and invite instead of trying to challenge and solve,” he said. “Bob Dylan himself defies description, and I think Todd was aiming to represent him. He was not trying to sum him up or define him.”
This is a useful resource because Heath Ledger discusses how he sees the film and what he thinks it’s about, so we see how he thinks Bob Dylan has been represented.
